FAQs About Printing & Embroidery

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Can I supply my own garments for decoration?

We don't recommend this - commerically -supplied garments are tested to work well with commerical print methods. We've tested everything we print or embroider and know that the products will decorate well and be durable. There's no money to be saved by buying in bulk and then delivering to us for decoration. Because of our buying volume, we almost certainly get a better price on blank product than a retail customer can. What's more, if we do accept product for decoration, and there's waste as a consequence of printing or embroidery, that's at the customer's risk. In short, there's no benefit to supplying your own product.

What printing method is used to print my t-shirts (or hoodies, sweatshirts, etc.)?

The printing method used depends on number of colours in your art, the size of the job and the material to be printed. One-off or short runs are usually printed digitally. One- or two-colour jobs above 24 pieces may be suited for screen print. We'll advise of your options before you order.

How long does it take to make my order?

Altacolor generally operates on a 7-10 business day turn-time as standard. We offer rush turns as short as two days at extra cost. We operate on a first-in, first-out basis, which means we can advise of the turn-time on your order when you order and stick to it.

Do you ship in bulk?

We can either bag product individually for retail, sort and bag by size and style, or sort by size and box - the choice is yours.

What files do you accept?

For text or flat graphics, we strongly suggest vector art in the form of AI, EPS or SVG. Images can be in TIFF, PSD or PNG formats, at high resolution at the size the art will print. We review all art for print success and provide digital proofs for approval.

Why do I have to pay an extra charge for embroidery?

Embroidery requires a special file be created from your artwork to drive the embroidery equipment. This is done by hand and requires experience to correctly prepare the machine file. This is a one-time charge, however, so reorders don't incurr this cost.
